In this course, I would like to give you an understanding of the topics relevant to an electrical engineer relating to safety technology, machinery directives and CE marking, as I consider these topics to be of fundamental importance. Unfortunately, safety technology is given far too little attention in most technical schools and even more so in a degree course. At least that is my experience. That is why I have created a completely separate course for this.

In this course, you will learn about all topics relating to the Machinery Directive and CE marking. I limit myself as far as possible to control technology and electrical engineering. In practice, however, the topics may overlap. Depending on which company you work for, the tasks are distributed differently. Nevertheless, it is generally important to understand the entire process, even if it is not one of your primary tasks.

The introductory section deals with the topic of laws, directives and standards. The second part deals with risk assessment and its process and content. The risk reduction section deals with strategies for minimizing risk. This is where the topic becomes fundamentally important for control technology. There are three stages to risk minimization, which we will then look at together. Finally, I will discuss the overall validation of the safety-related measures and the placing of the machine or system on the market.
